Today, more than ever before, it is difficult not to acknowledge the cumulative impact our lifestyles have had on the quality of the air we breathe and the environment we share. We must shift away from our dependence on fossil fuels which are responsible for 75% of the world’s human-caused greenhouse gases, and take a more proactive role as stewards of the earth. In Utah alone, consumption of fossil fuels comprises 98.4% of our energy usage.
Science tells us that we need to reduce our atmospheric CO2 concentration to 350ppm (parts per million) to live. Yet, our current atmospheric CO2 concentration of 385.99ppm is significantly higher than the natural range of ~180 ppm to 300 ppm that existed for at least 2.1 million years before the start of the industrial revolution.
According to the Census Bureau, the world’s population, which reached 6 billion in 1999, is expected to increase fifty percent by 2040 to 9 billion people. Human impact through the consumption of our natural resources, as well as on water and food supplies, will dramatically affect our quality of life. These stresses on our planet will not be selective, but make other issues and political challenges more severe and on a scale humankind has yet to encounter. We must take action now to reduce consumption, use energy more efficiently and utilize renewable energy for the sake of our children and future generations.
Our Mission
Renewable Energy Resources is a grassroots organization dedicated to participating in positive climate change through education and action. We must give back to our planet at a time when our future environmental health is at great risk. If we don't work towards this now, who will, and when?
RER’s goals are to provide topical information on renewable energy solutions and to lead efforts to implement those solutions. Together, we can take steps to reduce consumption, effectively utilize current energy resources, and begin to realize the promise of renewable energy. RER is dedicated to looking beyond the “future” measured in years, but rather anticipate what future generations could potentially be burdened with. Together we can reach beyond the horizon towards a more sustainable way of life.
